After much drama surrounding star running back Saquon Barkley and his contract, he’s agreed to a new deal with the Giants. Instead of playing on the franchise tag this year, Barkley signed a one-year deal worth $11 million, with a $2 million signing bonus.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Barkley was drafted second overall by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft, making him one of the most highly drafted running backs in recent history. After suffering through injuries most of his career, he had a healthy and resurgent 2022-2023 season.
In 16 games last year, Barkley rushed the ball 295 times for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns. He added 57 catches for 338 yards, but had no receiving touchdowns last year. Barkley was a big reason Daniel Jones and the Giants made the playoffs for the first time post-Eli Manning.
