The Eagles were dealt a tough loss last week against the Dallas Cowboys. They will now have a tougher challenge ahead of them as they will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Philadelphia. The Chiefs were a win away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy last year but came up short against Tom Brady and The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now they are in an unfamiliar position with a below .500 record. The Eagles will get an opportunity hand them their third straight loss come early Sunday afternoon. This article will give a preview of the Philadelphia Eagles Week 4 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs
Establish the Running Game
The Eagles practically gave up running the ball last week against the Dallas Cowboys. This will be a crucial aspect of their game this week. The Eagles are going up against one of the better defenses in the league and they cannot afford to be one-dimensional. Miles Sanders only has 30 rushing attempts in three games for 156 rushing yards. Sanders is too good of running back to not be getting more carries. This is a guy that just fell just short of a 1,000-yard season a year ago. He has the talent to do some pretty special things if the Eagles utilize him correctly. This falls on the coaching staff for not giving Sanders the opportunity to have more reps. Running the ball more will also put a lot of the weight off of Jalen Hurts, as he is still a young player in the NFL.
Limit Turnovers and Penalties
The Eagles also need to limit turnovers and the penalties in this game against Kansas City. The Eagles had 13 penalties a week ago and looked undisciplined. Some plays that could have gotten the offense jumpstarted were called back either because of holding or someone was offsides. This kills momentum and puts the team behind the Chains, which the Eagles cannot afford against this Chiefs team.
Hurts did not throw an interception until last week against the Dallas Cowboys. One was a pick 6 which cost the Eagles dearly as it put the Cowboys up by three touchdowns in the third quarter. Hurts will need to make better decisions with the ball this week, as Kansas City will definitely make him pay.
More Points need to be score on offense
Philadelphia only had two offensive touchdowns a week ago, which will not be enough to get the job done against the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback in the league and will find ways to score points during this game. He has many weapons on offense including Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. This starts with the play of Jalen Hurts for the Eagles. He needs to go through his progression more thoroughly passing the ball and not automatically take off running if the pocket collapses a little. He also needs to get DeVonta Smith more involved in this game. Smith only had three receptions for 28 yards last week. Hurts needs to look for him more often and maybe target him with a shot down the field. He has great playing-making ability which makes the odds likely that he will come down with the ball.
The Eagles Defense needs to stand tall
The Eagles cannot afford to give 41 points during this game like they did last week. Â They are going to have to find ways to stop the Chiefs on offense. This starts with the defensive line bringing pressure to Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles are capable of this as they have a lot of talent on that defensive line including Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave, who both made some great plays against Dallas.
Philadelphia will also need to find a way to make plays in coverage. Patrick Mahomes already has three interceptions on the season, which is weird for a quarterback of his caliber. The Eagles need to take advantage of this early season rust from Patrick Mahomes. If they can find a way to do that, then there could very be an upset in Philadelphia come Sunday afternoon. This concludes this Philadelphia Eagles game preview for week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
