The Eagles had an NFC East showdown against the Dallas Cowboys this past Monday. This game was important as it would get the Eagles off to a hot start in their division. Unfortunately, the hot start did not happen, as the Eagles were handed a 41-21 loss. This game saw the Cowboys dominate on offense and defense, while the Eagles struggled on both sides of the ball. This article will give a game recap on the Philadelphia Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Hurts struggled against the Dallas defenseÂ
Jalen Hurts struggled throughout this game with the pressure from the Dallas defense being too much to handle. Hurts got sacked two times during this game which cost the Eagles a loss of 23 yards. Hurts did however do well at trying to extend plays, as he is quick getting out of the pocket.
Furthermore, Hurts also struggled in the turnover department, as he had two interceptions during this game. One interception was a long pass to Jalen Reagor with the defensive backs draped all over him. This was an unneeded risk, as it was very early in the game and it was only a 2nd and 5. Hurts finished this game with 326 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Penalties Hurt the Eagles throughout the GameÂ
Penalties also killed the Eagles during this game. The offense was already struggling, but the penalties did not help them at all. The Eagles had 13 penalties for 86 yards. This lack of discipline will lose the Eagles a lot of games if they do not get this problem fixed soon.
There was no rushing attack at allÂ
Philadelphia decided that they did not need a rushing attack during this game. Miles Sanders only had two carries for 27 yards. Kenneth Gainwell had even less than Sanders with one carry for two yards. This made the Eagles’ offense very one-dimensional with Hurts throwing every down. Hurts did manage to scramble and utilize the option attack a little bit, which gave him 37 yards rushing. He ended up being the leading rusher in this game, which is ridiculous. Sanders has so much talent as a running back and is always a threat to defenses. The fact he only got two carries in this game is unacceptable.
The Defense looked bad but had bright spotsÂ
The Eagles’ defense could not stop the Cowboys at all during this game. The Dallas rushing attack was potent as Ezekiel Elliot got most of the carries in this game. He was a very patient and physical runner during this game. He always seemed to find a crease through the Eagles’ defense to burst through. The Dallas running back ended the day with 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Elliot was not the only running back on Dallas that feasted off of this Eagles defense. Tony Pollard also had a day with 60 yards rushing.
There were bright spots for this Eagles defense. They did manage to sack Dak Prescott four times. Javon Hargrave led the team in sacks as he had two in this game. The Eagles also forced a fumble in the end zone early, which resulted in a Fletcher Cox touchdown.
This performance by the Eagles needs to be quickly forgotten about as they face the Chiefs next Sunday. If the Eagles play the same way they did against Dallas then the Chiefs will end up clobbering them. This Concludes this Philadelphia Eagles game recap against the Dallas Cowboys.
