Is it Spring again? If you watched any of the LCS this past weekend, you may have noticed that 100 Thieves, the 1st place team, went 1-2. They had matches against Cloud 9, CLG, and Immortals, and they did not look good. Here is the 100 Thieves 2021 Summer Split Week 8 Review.
Friday – Cloud 9
To start out the weekend, 100 Thieves met Cloud 9 on Summoner’s Rift, and they didn’t look horrible. The Thieves didn’t look good, but they didn’t look terrible. The game was actually quite even up until the 32-minute mark, where Cloud 9 triple killed them as they pushed into Cloud 9’s base. Ibrahim ‘Fudge’ Allami looked incredible on Gwen, finishing with a 6/2/7 scoreline. Philippe ‘Vulcan’ Laflamme was huge on Nautilus, turning the game on its head with an incredible hook on Victor ‘FBI’ Huang, snowballing their lead in the midgame. It was not the way 100 Thieves wanted to start off the weekend.
Saturday – Counter Logic Gaming
This match was incredibly hard to watch. This was their 1 win of the weekend, and it should not have been a win. CLG played like only CLG could, and inexplicably threw the game for no reason. There was no reason why 100 Thieves should have won the game. Finn ‘Finn’ Fiestål looked like Nuguri for 33 minutes, and he picked up a huge triple kill in the Baron pit to secure Baron Nashor for CLG. Thankfully, Can ‘Closer’ Çelik looked like he has all split, an MVP front runner, on Graves with an 8/1/2 scoreline. He secured a Quadra kill during the second Baron fight, and that one fight allowed them to finish off CLG’s nexus.
Sunday – Immortals
Immortals looked like SK Telecom in 2015 on Sunday. Obviously this is hyperbolic, but David ‘Insanity’ Challe looked incredible on Lucian and Mohamed ‘Revenge’ Kaddoura made the game unplayable for FBI. Tahm Kench continues to look like an incredible solo laner, and he made FBI’s Kalista irrelevant. One thing of note was that in draft, for some reason 100 Thieves blind picked Lee Sin with Diana still up, leading to Immortals immediately locking it in. It was a bloody game, but unfortunately most of it was from 100 Thieves. They got outdrafted, outplayed, and they just plain didn’t play well.
Week 9 Preview
Week 9 concludes the 2021 LCS Summer split, and it is arguably the hardest group of games any team will play this weekend. To start off, the Thieves play Team SoloMid, who shares 1st place with them. Fans should watch the Jungle matchup in this one, with Mingyi ‘Spica’ Lu and Closer facing off. The two MVP front runners, both will be trying to get their team ahead.
On Saturday, the Thieves play Golden Guardians, who have been on an incredible climb through the standings, led by Nicholas ‘Ablazeolive’ Abbott and a resurgent Eric ‘Licorice’ Ritchie. The matchup to watch here is in the Mid Lane, with Ablazeolive facing off with Felix ‘Abbedagge’ Braun. Ablazeolive has been known to pull out the Tahm Kench pick, which as mentioned before, destroyed 100 Thieves this past week.
To finish the weekend, 100 Thieves matches up with Evil Geniuses. Many fans and analysts consider Evil Geniuses the current best team in the LCS. The whole team is looking really good, led by Rookie of the Year candidate Kyle ‘Danny’ Sakamaki. The bot laner has been playing really well for EG, and FBI and Huhi certainly have their work cut out for them. 100 Thieves needs to play their best to finish in 1st place.
