EA Sports’ Madden franchise has the daunting task of ranking all NFL players and their attributes. While they have the ability to correct these rankings with in-season roster updates, there are some issues with the initial rankings of players. So, The Game Haus will be analyzing the most questionable ratings for players on every NFL team.
Here are the most questionable Madden 21 ratings for the Tennessee Titans.
Taylor Lewan – 84
Lewan is one of the most underrated left tackles in the league. His 84 rating seems a bit too low for a guy who led the way for Derrick Henry.
This low rating could be due to the struggles of the offensive line. They gave up an appalling 56 sacks from a season ago. However, out of the 56 sacks, Lewan was responsible for only two and was solid all year long. Another factor in Lewan’s low rating could be due to the 10 penalties called against him, the majority of those being holding calls.
Although Lewan allowed 10 penalties, his blocking skills rank among the best in the league. The former first-round pick in the 2011 draft, led the way for Henry and was a big reason why Henry ran for over 1,500+ yards. Hopefully, as the season progresses, Lewan will get the recognition he deserves.
Adjusted Rating: 87
Derrick Henry – 93
Henry is easily a top-five running back going into the 2020 season. He led the league in rushing and single-handedly carried the Titans to the AFC Championship. However, EA was extremely favorable when it came to Henry’s ratings.
For starters, Henry’s speed comes in at 91. That rating seems a bit high for a guy who is known for his power and trucking abilities. At 6-foot-3, 247 lbs, Henry’s speed is rated higher than Ezekiel Elliot, Alvin Kamara and Kareem Hunt, three players that recorded faster 40 times than Henry did.
So, why exactly is his speed 91?
Two seasons ago, Henry had a 99-yard touchdown run, which showcased his speed. As a result, this run could have contributed to his high rating.
The rest of Henry’s ratings were fairly accurate. To adjust his speed rating from 91 to 88 will decrease his overall rating. Henry will look to build on an exceptional season this upcoming year.
Adjusted Rating: 92
Ryan Tannehill – 80
This offseason, the Tennessee Titans gave Tannehill a four-year extension worth $118 million, making him the tenth highest-paid quarterback in the league. However, EA’s initial rating for Tannehill makes him the 16th highest rated quarterback.
Why is this the case?
As the quarterback for the Titans this past season, Tannehill did not produce eye-opening numbers. He only threw for 228.5 yards/game with a total of 22 touchdowns in his ten regular-season games.
This is why Madden only ranked him as an 80. However, Tannehill had the best passer rating in the league (117.5) and the best yards per attempt (9.6). With these numbers, he still owned the third-best completion percentage (70.3).
Tannehill had a career year last season, but got overlooked because of how well Henry played. Tannehill should be ranked just a bit higher coming off his career year a season ago.
Adjusted rating: 82
