The deadline to sign players who were put on the franchise tag to an extension passed at 4 p.m. EST on July 15. There are four players playing on the franchise tag for the 2022 NFL season.
The franchise tag deadline has come and gone: No long-term deals officially for #Chiefs LT Orlando Brown, #Bengals S Jessie Bates, #Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz and #Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki.
They'll play on a one-year, fully-guaranteed salary in 2022.

Orlando Brown is a three-time Pro Bowler who couldn’t agree to a new deal with the Chiefs. He started at left tackle for the team as they made the AFC Championship last season.
The Bengals and safety Jessie Bates couldn’t agree on a deal that reportedly hinged on the guaranteed money in the deal. He had 88 total tackles, four passes defended and one interception in the 2021 season. His play helped the Bengals reach the Super Bowl.
Tight end Dalton Schultz had the best season of his career in 2021 for the Dallas Cowboys. He caught 78 passes for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. A deal was not expected between the two sides.
Miami’s Mike Gesicki is another tight end coming off the best season of his career. He finished the season with 73 catches for 780 yards and two touchdowns. Like the others on this list, he’ll play one-year with fully-guaranteed money before being able to renegotiate.
