Andy Miller is the visionary behind NRG Esports. In November of 2015 he delved into the world of esports with fellow Sacramento Kings co-owner Mark Mastrov. For over four years he has built the NRG brand into a titan within the esports world. From a cautionary start into League of Legends to a championship winning franchise with The San Francisco Shock of the Overwatch League, Miller has had quite the journey. Andy Miller always seems to be able to see the beginning of the wave in trends and has decided to catch the wave of professional gaming. His latest foray into this world is the Chicago Huntsmen of the Call of Duty League. Miller has become the head of the hunt and The Huntsmen are already proving themselves to be a top-tier team in the beginning of the season and have the potential to win it all.
The Past
Andy Miller was a lawyer in Boston with a passion for sports. During his first job he discovered he hated where the firm had put him and was later laid off during a recession. Looking for something new he would find himself hanging out at the MIT Media Lab where he would get on the ground floor of interactive TV. Shortly after this he would sell that company and begin working in the SMS industry and later mobile advertising. During this era he sold his company Quattro Wireless to Apple and would begin to work under Steve Jobs. After Jobs passed away in October of 2011 he would come into the world of sports ownership after purchasing a minor league baseball team, the Modesto Nuts. From here Miller would then become a co-owner of the Sacramento Kings after meeting Mark Mastrov.
The Birth of NRG
In November of 2015 Andy Miller and Mark Mastrov would go on to create NRG Esports. Since then they have gained quite the following along with an acclaimed list of investors. These investors include: Shaquille O’Neal, Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Strahan, Tiësto, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard. While not only investing, this group always advises and helps guide the ethos of NRG Esports. NRG wants to build a legacy in esports and has proven their dedication to the rapidly growing world. Originally focused on building their brand and securing their position, the organization has now begun to focus on one important factor: winning.
The Rise of NRG
2019 was quite a year for NRG Esports as they have delved into several different titles with massive success. The San Francisco Shock won season 2 of the Overwatch League in a dominant fashion. As a result the Shock have secured themselves as a the number one team of the league and are by far considered one of the most powerful organizations. 2019 also saw the rise of Apex Legends where they would secure the original star of Apex: Coby “Dizzy” Meadows. Dizzy would go on to win the ESPN EXP Pro-Am and was considered the first personality of Apex. NRG also won RLCS Season 8 in an epic showdown against Renault which came down to the wire. Now NRG is focusing on making their mark in another league, The Call of Duty League.
H3CZ and The Huntsmen
On September 13, 2019, NRG announced they would be joining the Call of Duty League. Shortly after this it was announced that none other than Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez would be joining NRG as Co-CEO and would be put in charge of the newly formed team. This move was a stroke of genius from Andy Miller as he put a master of esports culture and a legend of the Call of Duty franchise in charge of his new organization. H3CZ is one of the pioneers of content creation for Call of Duty. He also has secured himself as one of the foremost experts in the competitive scene. H3CZ lives and breathes Call of Duty and is a pillar within its community. With this type of leadership behind their new team NRG was poised to become a powerhouse in the Call of Duty League.
Rise of Champions
Even though it is still the beginning of the season the Chicago Huntsmen are proving to be an elite team. The team not only has the leadership of H3CZ but also a stacked roster. The roster consists of superstars Seth “Scump” Abner and Matthew “FormaL” Piper. Along with that are Call of Duty World League Champion Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson, standout player Peirce “Gunless” Hillman who is an absolute beast along with Dylan “Envoy” Hannon, a master of the SMG and a true rising star. Andy Miller and H3CZ have pieced together a prize winning team that has the potential for dynasty status as these players have already proven themselves in the competitive scene. The Huntsmen have the ability to be another championship winning team for Andy Miller and NRG Esports.
