Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are five players to add in fantasy football week 6. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Adrian Peterson, RB, Washington Redskins
Peterson has gotten off to a rough start this season, as the entire Redskins team has struggled. He has 40 carries for just 108 yards and one touchdown. The firing of Jay Gruden might actually help Peterson’s case to be picked up for the long-term, but Peterson is definitely worth picking up for the short term.
The Redskins play the Dolphins this week who are tanking and give up the most fantasy points to running backs. Peterson should be picked up and could even be started in a lot of leagues given the matchup. He is owned in just under 50 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Jon Hilliman, RB, New York Giants
Wayne Gallman and Saquon Barkley are already reportedly out for the Giants’ Thursday night game against the Patriots. That opens the door for HIlliman to get a lot of touches. He did not do well in relief of Gallman on Sunday, as he had nine carries for 20 yards. He is still worth the pickup for his opportunities this week.
The Giants do play a tough New England defense this week, but if they can get in the red zone, Hilliman could get some touches that result in a touchdown. New York is down several players for this game, so Hilliman isn’t a huge risk to pick up and possibly play. He is available in nearly all ESPN leagues.
3. Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans
Davis, like Peterson, was probably drafted in most leagues, but has been dropped due to lack of production. This might be the time to pick him up and hope he improves over the latter part of the season. So far this year, Davis has 13 catches for 201 yards and one touchdown.
The Titans have had some successful receivers, as rookie A.J. Brown has 250 receiving yards and two touchdowns. More of the production will likely swing his way soon. He is available in just over half of ESPN leagues.
4. Diontae Johnson, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Johnson didn’t have his best game of the season against the Ravens, with four catches for 49 yards. He did, however, have two-straight 11-point games before that as he connected with Mason Rudolph. His production may dip while Rudolph deals with his concussion, but Johnson is the clear number two receiver in Pittsburgh.
This week, Johnson is a pickup and stash player. He won’t have much value this week with Develin Hodges starting at quarterback, but should have value when Rudolph returns. He is owned in 19.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Hunter Henry, TE, Los Angeles Chargers
Henry will likely not play in week 6, but he is getting closer to returning from his broken tibia. The timetable for his return was four to six weeks after week 1. Even if he can’t go this week, he is worth picking up before other owners pounce all over him.
As a player who has been there for a few years, Henry should be able to jump right back into the offense. He is owned in 45.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
