Arnold only spent three seasons and started in most of two for Alabama, but created a huge impact. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a five-star prospect in the class of 2021, Arnold signed with Alabama out of Florida. He redshirted his first year on campus and did not play. In his sophomore season, Arnold started seven out of 11 games played, registering 45 total tackles, one interception and eight passes defended. He was named a Freshman All-American and helped the Crimson Tide win 11 games. As a full-time starter in 2023, Arnold racked up 63 total tackles, five interceptions and 12 passes defended. He led Alabama to a 12-win season and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Following the College Football Playoff, Arnold declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Terrion Arnold Strengths
Arnold plays with good instincts and awareness. He has a good feel for the game and has a good idea of where plays are going. Arnold shows good route recognition and can put himself in good position because of that. This also applies to the run game, as he takes good angles to the football and can help his team in that regard.
Especially in 2023, Arnold displayed good ball skills. His good instincts and awareness put him in good position, but he makes a good jump on the ball once he is in the area. He attacks the catch point and although he could have better timing to high-point the ball, he is still aggressive. Arnold is capable of swatting the ball away or coming up with an interception.
His specific style of play allows him to be successful in press man-to-man coverage. He can be physical at the line of scrimmage, but more importantly, he has fluid hips, which allows him to mirror receivers throughout a rep. His sticky coverage can allow him to be left on an island.
Terrion Arnold Weaknesses
While his man-to-man coverage is great, his zone coverage can leave some to be desired. He can fail to maintain eye-balance between the receiver and the quarterback. This can cause him to lose his receiver. Better focus can help him improve in this area and let teams trust him in zone more.
Arnold was good in press, but can sometimes be beat by quick releases. He needs to make sure to bump receivers and trust his technique throughout a rep. When he does get beat, he works to get back in good position in a rep.
When he is in off-man coverage, Arnold can play too far off and give up too much of a cushion. He can be late to the football because of this, even when he reads the play well. Arnold needs to stay more engaged when in off coverage.
