Nabers showed steady improvement over his college career and leaves as a star. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, Nabers signed with LSU, his home-state school. As a true freshman, he immediately created an impact with 28 catches for 417 yards and four touchdowns. He returned in 2022 and put up better numbers with 72 receptions for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns. His play helped LSU win 10 games, including the SEC West in 2022. For the 2023 season, Nabers registered 89 catches for 1,569 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. The Tigers again won 10 games in 2023 with Nabers being a key factor.
Following the season, Nabers declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a top 10 pick.
Malik Nabers Strengths
Nabers is the most explosive receiver in the draft class as an athlete. He has great quickness and can accelerate at the start of the play well. Nabers has great straight-line speed, but also can change directions quickly. All of these attributes help him out in a variety of ways on the field, including being a good deep threat. He will be tough to match up with for defensive backs.
With the ball in his hands, Nabers can be a threat. He has the speed and quickness to be elusive in the open field. Nabers runs hard with the ball in his hands and also has solid vision to run to open space. As mentioned, he can create big plays by going deep, but he can also do so by getting the ball in his hands quickly and running after the catch.
His quickness and ability to change directions has helped him in his route running. He has good releases at the line of scrimmage to help free himself from press coverage. When he needs to break in his routes, he is able to decelerate and then pick up speed quickly. He gets in and out of his breaks, creating plenty of separation in the process. Nabers has experience running a decent amount of routes at the college level.
Malik Nabers Weaknesses
Nabers typically has good hands, but there are a few things that will limit him with his catching ability. He has a limited catch radius, as he is listed as just 6-foot. On top of that, he can sometimes struggle to make contested catches. He can work on this through time, as he is a natural catcher of the football.
He can sometimes struggle to beat press coverage. Nabers has good releases, but sometimes needs to fight through press more. He can add strength to his frame to help in this area. If he has solid releases and more strength, he should be able to beat press even more moving forward.
Currently, Nabers is a disinterested run blocker. He also doesn’t have the biggest frame to develop in this area. This won’t have a huge impact on his draft stock, but NFL teams will want him to buy in and help free up big plays in the running game.
Projected Draft Range: Top 10 Pick
