Alex Morgan made a bold celebration after the goal she scored in the US women’s game against England on Tuesday in the Women’s World Cup Semifinals.
The US worked hard to regain the lead after England tied the game 1-1. This happened when Morgan scored off of the header.
Her celebration mimicked drinking tea, to subtly mock the English.
Loads of fans have been going to Twitter in support of Morgan’s celebration. Many in the mood for the upcoming July 4 celebration.
Although the support for Morgan was loud, so were the critics.
Former English player Lianne Sanderson responded back to the celebration. “I expected Alex to grab a goal but I’m not that happy with that celebration,” Sanders told beIN Sports. “You can celebrate how you want, but for me, that is a bit distasteful, and I don’t think she needs to do that.”
USWNT teammate Megan Rapinoe also had some say in the celebration- specifically for the critics.
“It’s like, we’re at the World Cup. What do you want us to do? We work hard, we like to play hard,” Rapinoe said.
Rapinoe has gotten fed up with the critics attacking the team since the USWNT beat Thailand 13-0.
Morgan came out later on Twitter in support of her celebration.
