Week one of the National PUBG League has come to a close as the contenders played their matches to begin to solidify their intentions for the year. The contenders are looking to prove that they have what it takes to compete on the next level, and some teams have begun to show that they can.
NPL Contenders
The National PUBG League Contenders are a second league that sit below the top level of competition. The top teams will get the chance move up toward the end of each phase, so the competition is very intense. The setup of the National PUBG League is very similar to that of a European soccer league, where teams are relegated and promoted into different tiers of leagues.
Round One
The NPL Contenders played four rounds on Tuesday and teams started to show their intentions for the season. The first round saw a victory for Overconfident, who took the win in a 1v1 battle. Stab gave Overconfident the advantage that they needed to finish off the last player of Halocline Gaming.
Round Two
The second round saw a win for PlayerOne Esports who used grenades as their advantage to topple Elevate. They took down the competition with an impressive 13-kill game. This win earned them the third-place spot in the contender’s league.
Round Three
Halocline Gaming came back and got their win for the day in round three. They put up an 11-kill game over Mustache Dave who couldn’t gain the advantage over Halocline on the higher ground. Halocline ended the day in second place.
Round Four
Coming off the loss in round three, Mustache Dave came back and put up the highest kill count so far in all leagues. They put up a 17-kill game while taking down Team Kru. Mustache Dave ended the day in first place, while Team Kru ended in fifth.
Contender’s Standouts
The standouts from the day were the teams that ended in first and second place: Mustache Dave and Halocline Gaming. Mustache Dave showed that they have the ability to put up a large number of kills while playing tactically. They have more kills than any team in the NPL. Halocline Gaming got a Chicken Dinner and a second-place finish and showed that they know how to use terrain to their advantage. Both of these teams will be looking to keep their high positions moving into week two.
National PUBG League Week Two Preview
The NPL starts up again today with week two of competition. Why Tempt Fate will be headed in holding the number one spot. They will be looking to continue their form and capitalize on the three wins that they pulled off in week one.
Spacestation Gaming will be the team to watch this week as they will be looking to rise back up the table after dropping from fourth to seventh place. Even though they had an impressive win, they still dropped down the table. Alongside Spacestation, Cloud9 will be looking to jump up the table after moving into the number three spot.
Tensions are going to be high this week as all the teams will be looking to shake up the table. Stay tuned for more coverage of week two of the National PUBG League!
