With the second trailer officially having released, a ton of information for the newest generation of Pokemon revealed. As many likely already know, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet take huge inspiration from Legends Arceus in game design. From a more open world, improved visuals, and visible pokemon in the wild, Pokemon Scarlet and Violent symbolize the new leap for the pokemon games. But is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet multiplayer, and what does the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet multiplayer encompass?

Speculation
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Multiplayer will most definitely be supported. Shown in the gameplay trailer, players seem to roam the open world together, interacting to trade. So trading with other players is, at this point, 100% confirmed.
But what’s new?
This may be the first time in the main line series’ history where players have the capacity to go on an adventure together. In previous entries, the game forced players into an indoor setting for multiplayer features. Therefore, the outdoor setting may represent the possibility of adventuring side by side. In fact, a man in the woods states this in the trailer:
“If you connect with friends, you can head out on adventures together-up to four of you at a time!”
If players look in the trailer, a pokemon center is stands in the background. Therefore, there may be some limitations to the amount to interactions players can actually perform with each other in the open world. So don’t get too excited quite yet!
Another interesting snip bit from the trailer shows various trainers running around various maps. Though the short segment may simply be highlighting different customization features, it seems to elude towards roaming the open world together. If it is, that’d be absolutely amazing to have. The limitations and features of free roam remains a mystery.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet multiplayer battles hasn’t been confirmed quite yet. But as a new entry in the mainline series, it’s difficult to see multiplayer battles not making a return. The feature was absent in Legends Arceus. But seeing as how big the battle culture surrounding the pokemon games is, it’s hard to imagine that developers leave this feature out.
In Conclusion
Multiplayer in Pokemon games is arguably one of the most enjoyable experiences for the franchise. And with the game releasing in November 18, 2022, expectations are set high for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. If the developers finally implement a properly functioning free roam multiplayer, the game will push the series to new heights. And no, Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu don’t count.
