The Overwatch League announced the support role stars at the beginning of Friday’s playoff matches. This is a highly competitive role this season with stand-out performances by many support players. This is emphasized even more by the fact that there have been so many new support heroes that have been released that support players have had to master. This year the support role stars were swept by the Atlanta Reign and Seoul Infernal.
Chiyo
Chiyo is a part of one of the hardest backlines to kill. The Atlanta Reign invested in their team and a major part of that was Chiyo and Fielder. Chiyo has made playing against the Reign a tiring task as he not only keeps his team alive but outputs damage, picking up final blows as well. He has proven that it isn’t just the team around him, but his determination and skill that helps keep him on top as a main support.
Skewed
Skewed brought a depth to the Seoul Infernal that complemented his support duo perfectly. He was able to enable his team. Skewed was essential in helping the team in the playoffs when they were missing his support duo. He has bounced around to a few teams, but on the Seoul Infernal, he has reached his full potential. This role star has proven that he has had it all these seasons and just needed the right situation to pop off.
Fielder
Fielder is the second half of the Atlanta Reign duo. He was also honored with the support role star. Fielder has had a long journey but since last season with the Dallas Fuel and now the Atlanta Reign he has shown that on ping or on LAN he is a monster to be dealt with. His final blows and sleep darts give his team a major advantage that could be seen in the Midseason Madness and regular season.
Fixa
Fixa showed dominance in the APAC region. Though he was unfortunately injured right before playoffs, during the regular season he earned top marks. He also was a bloodthirsty support player, being the top support fragger in the east. Fixa brought his team to a great place going into playoffs. He highly deserves recognition for his hard work.
Support Role Stars
The support category, though sometimes overlooked, has played a major role in the meta this season. All four of these players positively impacted their teams helping with DPS as well as keeping their teammates alive. Going forward deeper into the playoffs it will be interesting to see how these four match up with each other.
