It’s official, Sigma is Overwatch’s 31st and newest hero. With the announcement coming on stream with Seagull, fans were able to see a taste of his weapon, abilities and ultimate and understand a bit more about who Sigma really is. With more details now out about the new character, here is a more in-depth look at his full kit and what implications he may have to the current Overwatch meta.
Weapon: Hyperspheres
These orbs are projectiles that bounce off of walls and implode after a short amount of time and have a small amount of explosion damage as well. Landing both at direct hits does 120 damage.
Shield: Experimental Barrier
The shield can be deployed and dismissed at a fast rate, giving players the ability to rotate and shield from all angles and pivot quickly. It has 1500 hp.
Abilities: Accretion and Kinetic Grasp
Accretion: This ability conjures a mass and hurls it towards the enemy dealing a sizeable amount of damage.
Kinetic Grasp: This ability absorbs incoming damage and gives Sigma shield from a result. It can convert damage to up to 800 total health/shields for Sigma.
Ultimate: Gravitic Flux
Sigma’s ultimate hurls a character in the air, holds them for a second and then slams them down for damage. During all of this, Sigma floats in the air and can move far away from the fray.
Initial Thoughts
From the stream, Jeff confirmed that this hero was actually going to be Mauga, until they started building the kit for Sigma, who looks to be more of an intellectual main tank than Mauga would have been. Sigma looks to be a tank hero that could greatly break up bunker metas (as well as potentially bolstering them on defense) and should be an exciting new addition to the roster of heroes. It will take time to see exactly how he fits into the game. He will likely be expected to go live sometime around mid-August.
