In what appeared to be a sudden surprise for many OWL fans, the Uprising revealed their latest piece to the 2021 puzzle. On Wednesday January 6, the Boston Uprising announced the signing of new assistant coach Dennis “Barroi” Matz for the 2021 season. Barroi had spent the previous two seasons with the Toronto Defiant, until he was released in the offseason of 2020.

The new Uprising analyst is known for his work on Winston’s Lab, a Fantasy Overwatch League site. While working on the platform, Barroi was able to see insights and derive information from parts of the game that most teams overlooked. Due to his success at the site and his unique skill set, Barroi was called up to the big leagues to bring his analytical prowess to the Defiant.

Barroi joined the Toronto Defiant in the 2019 season, where the team started off hot but fizzled later in the year. The team itself had gone through multiple variations of starting lineups, but the coaching staff had remained the same throughout 2019. 2020 was much more of the same, rotating out players and needing to sign mid-season additions to fill in gaps.
Boston isn’t too unfamiliar with roster issues. Now together, the both Barroi and the rest of the Uprising hope to have a season with a little less turnover and more positive results.
