The first wave of Overwatch 2 PvE finally received an official name and reveal. Going by Overwatch 2 Invasion, this is the much awaited PvE content the community has been waiting for. This then begs the question, ‘What is the Overwatch 2 Invasion release date?’
The official Overwatch 2 Invasion release date is on August 10, 2023. This was revealed in their reveal trailer, teasing the PvE. But the content isn’t available for everyone, at least not for free. Players must pay for the bundle to experience the story mode, starting at $15 for the base bundle.

Blizzard’s decision to block the Overwatch 2 Story Mode experience behind a paywall disappointed many members of the community. Some players thought they paid for the PvE when they purchased the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack — this is not the case. All players will need to purchase the Overwatch 2 Invasion Bundle separately to access the content starting August 10.
In other words, players who do not purchase the base Overwatch 2 Invasion bundle or higher cannot play the story mode missions, and cannot participate in the teased new co-op mission on King’s Row, which is sure to disappoint many players.
Fortunately, the new PvP game mode, Flashpoint, will be open to all players, regardless of whether they purchase the Invasion bundle or not. Flashpoint will be a core new game mode, where teams “will fight for control of key positions across the map called “flashpoints,” aiming to capture three of them before their opponents do.”
