On June 12, the world was given the biggest update for Overwatch 2 to date. During the Xbox Live portion of Summer Games Fest Blizzard Entertainment announced the new release date for Overwatch 2. The announcement was accompanied by a short video that revealed some major changes to Overwatch as a whole. Overwatch will be free to play and the October release will also feature a brand new hero. Along with the big changes, the announcement featured some smaller, and potentially more fun, additions to the game. Does this mean that Gun Charms are coming to Overwatch 2?

One of the smaller adds to Overwatch 2 appears to be cosmetics for weapons. In a few short clips, it appears as though Cassidy and Lucio show off their weapons to display a small gun charm. Lucio’s looks to be a dog, while Cassidy’s looks to be Hanzo’s ultimate icon. This is a big addition to the game as players could only personalize their weapon by buying the golden variation of a characters weapon.
Viewers could make plenty of logical leaps with just these few in-game shots. First and foremost, it looks like players can now show off their weapon with a little flourish, similar to what players would see in other FPS games like Counter Strike.
Secondly, it looks like the new gun buddies could be earned through play time like the current system to grab voice lines or skins. It also could be that players could earn certain gun buddies through achievements, like some of the sprays players can currently earn. Cassidy’s gun charm could be an example of earning a cosmetic through doing something special with a hero’s ultimate.
Gun charms are a great way to show off some personality inside a game like Overwatch. It looks like players can finally personalize their character when Overwatch 2 comes around.
