The Cleveland Browns announced on Saturday that they were going to release Josh Gordon on Monday (after consideration, they are reportedly looking to trade Gordon). Gordon has been hinting at teams that he needs a place to go. After six years with the Cleveland, the Browns admitted that they tried and stood by Gordon through everything. But their faith had diminished and the team was ready to move on. Where will Gordon go? Here are the top possible places the wide receiver will land:
Dallas Cowboys
After the release of Dez Bryant, and with tight end Jason Witten retired, the Cowboys have been missing a key part of their offense. Dak Prescott has minimal receivers to target and connect with. Having Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield has helped Dallas power through and get some points on the board. But adding a veteran wide receiver to this team can vamp them up. Gordon can make the long catches that Prescott desperately wants to complete. Gordon also expressed his interest in playing for the Cowboys after being informed that he would no longer be a Brown.
San Fransisco 49ers
The 49ers are the team that needed to rebuild from the bottom up. Last year they acquired quarterback Jimmy Garapolo form the Patriots at the end of the season. They also picked up veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. Their receiving core is nowhere near where it needs to be. Adding Gordon would be a huge help to Garapolo and would boost their ability to put points on the board. He would fit in well with Shanahan’s new offense as well. Gordon also expressed his interest in playing for the 49ers.
New York Jets
Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold hasn’t had the worst start. The Jets’ current record is 1-1 after week 2. Darnold has connected with eight different receivers in both games of the season. He has plenty to work on, but adding Gordon into this mix could be good for Darnold and the Jets’ organization. They are a big fan of throwing it downfield in tight situations. Gordon could make it easy to up the number of tight-throw attempts and turn them into high yardage competitions.
New England Patriots
The Patriots are a team that takes chances on the different type of receivers. The Patriots don’t seem to be the team that needs the help in the receiving end of the game but Tom Brady is always able to bring in new receivers and make them apart of the game. After trading Brandin Cooks, releasing Kenny Britt and Malcolm Mitchell the Patriots could use a good clutch receiver like Gordon.
