The first round of the 2022 NFL draft is in the books. The first night saw a lot of trades, a few surprising picks, one quarterback back off the board and a great atmosphere. Thursday night was historic in many ways and luckily the NFL fans will get to see more as the draft rolls on. The Philadelphia Eagles were right in the thick of the action last night. Philly had two picks at the beginning of night. The picks consisted of the 15th and 18th overall picks. This piece will review round one of the Philadelphia Eagles 2022 NFL Draft.
Philadelphia Eagles Review: Round One
13th Overall Pick via Houston Texans
The first player the Eagles took off the board with the 13th overall pick was Jordan Davis. The Eagles moved up the draft board to take him as they made a trade with the Houston Texans. Davis is a playmaking defensive tackle out of the University of Georgia. He is a player that will surely add depth to this defensive line. Philadelphia needed this to strengthen their pass rushing. They finished at the bottom of the league in sacks in 2021. The Eagles already have another talented DT in Javon Hargrave, who led the Eagles in sacks in 2021. In addition to Hargrave, Philly also has Fletcher Cox who is a talented veteran that can still play at a high level.
Let us get into a little more of what Davis can bring to this Eagles defense. Davis has a lot of strength and power. He also uses his flexibility to his advantage. Davis is a nightmare for any offensive linemen to contain. Davis spent four years with the Bulldogs and finished his career off with a National Championship. During his senior season, Davis recorded 32 tackles, five tackles for a loss and two sacks. He finished his career at with a few awards. Firstly, Davis was named a consensus All American in 2021. He also won the Chuck Bednarik Award and the John Outland Trophy. It will be exciting to see how Jordan Davis does with the Eagles in 2022 as he will surely get some playing time.
18th Overall Pick: Traded to the Tennessee Titans
The Eagles were a part of the numerous amounts of trades as they may have made the biggest one of them all. The Eagles’ search for big-name wide receiver is over. Philadelphia traded their 18th overall pick and a third-round pick to receive Titans star, A.J. Brown. Furthermore, the Eagles have already got him locked into a contract. The deal is worth $100 million over four years with $57 million of that money guaranteed.

This deal was rumored before the NFL Draft. A.J. Brown was seen practicing with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. This could have meant nothing more but two friends working out together, but obviously more was in play here. In three years, Brown has scored 24 touchdowns with the Titans. Furthermore, he finished his first two seasons in the NFL with 1,000 yards receiving. The Eagles now have two top-tier receivers on their roster, which will make their receiving core a lot more consistent in 2022.
The Philadelphia Eagles have already made a splash in the 2022 NFL Draft. Be on the lookout for more Eagles draft coverage soon.
