2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl Preview

Publish Date: December 17, 2024

The 2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl features the 6-6 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers against the 6-6 UTSA Roadrunners. Here is the 2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl Preview.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Coastal Carolina won six games to qualify for a bowl game. They defeated one bowl-eligible team this season: Jacksonville State. Two of their losses were to teams that didn’t make a bowl game: Virginia and Troy.

The Chanticleers score 29.8 points per game, ranking them 50th in the country. They pass for 203.6 yards (ranked 92nd) and rush for 178.7 yards per game (ranked 46th).

Starting quarterback Ethan Vasko is in the transfer portal. Backup Noah Kim is also in the portal. Tad Hudson is expected to start and he has never taken a college snap. Six players have at least 200 receiving yards on the season. Jameson Tucker is the leading receiver with 540 yards and six touchdowns.

Two running backs have gotten most of the work out of the Coastal Carolina backfield. Brayden Bennett leads the team with 727 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The other part of the running back duo, Christian Washington, is in the transfer portal.

Defensively, the Chanticleers allow 30.1 points per game, ranking 103rd in the country. They give up 180.2 rushing yards (ranked 104th) and 225.4 passing yards per game (ranked 81st). Linebacker Shane Bruce has led the team in tackles with 68. Clev Lubin led the team in sacks with 9.5, but he is in the transfer portal. Matthew McDoom made an impact in the secondary with 10 passes defended and three interceptions, but he is also in the transfer portal, so new Coastal Carolina players will need to step up.

UTSA Roadrunners

UTSA won six games to become bowl-eligible. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams this season: Memphis and North Texas. Two of their losses, Rice and Tulsa, were to teams that didn’t qualify for a bowl game.

The Roadrunners score 32.2 points per game, ranking 36th in the country. They pass for 285.8 yards (ranked 11th) and rush for 160.2 yards per game (ranked 70th).

Owen McCown has started at quarterback for UTSA. He has passed for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 62 percent completion. There are six players on the team with at least 200 receiving yards. Willie McCoy has led the team with 28 catches for 536 yards and four touchdowns.

Two running backs led the way or the Roadrunners. Robert Henry was the leading rusher with 706 yards and seven touchdowns. Brandon High Jr. has chipped in with 419 yards and seven touchdowns.

On defense, they allow 31.3 points per game, ranking 108th in the country. They give up 273.6 passing yards (ranked 125th) and 110.2 rushing yards per game (ranked 18th). Martavius French has the team-high with 77 total tackles. Jimmori Robinson has been great getting after the passer with 10.5 sacks. Zah Frazier has made plays on the ball in the secondary with nine passes defended and six interceptions.

Prediction

This game will actually be played at Coastal Carolina’s home stadium. Coastal Carolina had a lot of their roster enter the transfer portal, which will be hard to deal with. UTSA can win in a “road game”, but it might be close given the unique circumstances.

UTSA Roadrunners 34 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 31
