NFL Week 9 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 9 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 4-11, Season total: 56-65-1
NFL week 9 picks against the spread
Thursday Night Football
New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts (-10.5)
The Jets got a big win over the Bengals by attacking the short areas of the field. Cincinnati didn’t adjust, but Indianapolis will. The Colts also will be able to run the ball effectively to win big.
Pick: Colts
Sunday Afternoon
Minnesota Vikings at Baltimore Ravens (-5.5)
On Sunday Night Football, the Vikings lost to a backup quarterback in Cooper Rush. It would be incredible if they were able to pick themselves back up and keep the game close against Baltimore. The Ravens are coming off a bye and should be well-prepared for this game.
Pick: Ravens
New England Patriots (-3.5) at Carolina Panthers
The Patriots are playing really good football right now after defeating the Chargers on the road. Carolina may be getting Christian McCaffrey back for this game. Even if they do, the offense hasn’t been good. New England should be able to win and cover.
Pick: Patriots
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals (-3)
Both of these teams have concerns, as Cincinnati lost to the Jets and the Browns have been a shell of the team they were a year ago. Overall this season, the Bengals look much better and will likely get back on track with a win.
Pick: Bengals
Denver Broncos at Dallas Cowboys (-8.5)
Dak Prescott is expected back for this game and the Broncos have shipped Von Miller out. It doesn’t look like they’ll be winning too many more games this season, while the Cowboys have high hopes.
Pick: Cowboys
Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars (-14.5)
Jacksonville just lost by more than this margin at home to the Seahawks, who were without Russell Wilson and Chris Carson. They were also coming off a bye. Buffalo should win easily.
Pick: Bills
Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins (-7)
The Texans have started trading away their players and they already had a lackluster roster. Miami has struggled, but should be able to win this game easily.
Pick: Dolphins
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (-6)
Jameis Winston is out for the season. Taysom Hill is expected to return for this game, but if not Trevor Siemian is set to play quarterback. The Saints’ defense will lead them to victory, but it might be close because of the quarterback situations.
Pick: Falcons
Las Vegas Raiders (-3) at New York Giants
Despite a lot going on off the field, the Raiders have played well. They are coming off a bye and getting New York on a short week, which should result in a decent-sized win.
Pick: Raiders
Sunday Evening
Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5) at Philadelphia Eagles
The Chargers aren’t playing as well as they did to start the season, so it might be refreshing to see the Eagles on the schedule. Philadelphia struggles to consistently run the ball with their running backs, so that will be a relief with the Chargers struggling to stop the run. The Chargers should get back on track this week.
Pick: Chargers
Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs (-0.5) *Updated Following Aaron Rodgers Covid Status
In a rematch of the first Super Bowl, Aaron Rodgers has to sit out for COVID. If he was able to play, the pick would be for the Packer, as the Chiefs are struggling. Kansas City should be able to take advantage of Jordan Love making his first start.
Pick: Chiefs
Arizona Cardinals (-2.5) at San Francisco 49ers
Arizona may have lost to the Packers, but had extra time to prepare for the 49ers. The Cardinals are set to rebound well from their only loss of the season.
Pick: Cardinals
Sunday Night Football
Tennessee Titans at Los Angeles Rams (-7.5)
With Derrick Henry out, the Titans lack a true identity as a team. Los Angeles has added to their stacked team with Von Miller. The Rams are far more equipped to win this game and could do so by at least two scores.
Pick: Rams
Monday Night Football
Chicago Bears at Pittsburgh Steelers (-6.5)
These are two good defenses going at it. Pittsburgh got a big win over the Browns, but to be favored by a touchdown is a little extreme. It should be a low-scoring, close game on Monday night.
Pick: Bears
