NFL Week 4 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 4 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from tallysight as of Tuesday afternoon)
Last week: 8-8, Season total: 19-28-1
NFL Week 4 Picks Against the Spread
Thursday Night Football
Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)
The Bengals advanced to 2-1 with a great defensive performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their defense looks good to start and on top of that they will be facing a rookie quarterback on a short week. Cincinnati should win and cover.
Pick: Bengals
Sunday Afternoon
Washington Football Team (-1.5) at Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta has struggled to score and play defense, which makes this line curious. Washington’s defense will be ready to play in this one and Taylor Heinicke will be able to do enough for them to cover.
Pick: Washington
Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills (-16.5)
This is a huge line, but the Bills should be able to cover. Houston will have Davis Mills at quarterback and the team didn’t look great against the Panthers on Thursday Night Football. Buffalo has improved each week since losing to Pittsburgh in week 1.
Pick: Bills
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (-2.5)
Chicago has no grasp of their offense and Matt Nagy doesn’t seem like he’s going to figure it out soon. No matter who starts at quarterback, they will be in for a tough game against the Lions. Detroit has been playing solidly against good competition and this week they may be able to win against a team that is struggling.
Pick: Lions
Carolina Panthers at Dallas Cowboys (-4.5)
The Panthers are undefeated and boast a solid defense. Unfortunately, their offense isn’t great and they’ll be without Christian McCaffrey. The high-powered Dallas offense should be able to run away with this game late and cover.
Pick: Cowboys
Indianapolis Colts at Miami Dolphins (-2.5)
This is a game that the Colts desperately need to win. They will have more to play for than the Dolphins, as the Colts are 0-3. Indianapolis will run the ball and play good defense. Jacoby Brissett will need to make big plays against his former team, but it will be hard with how talented their defense is this season.
Pick: Colts
Cleveland Browns (-2.5) at Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are a hard team to figure out. They played poorly against Cincinnati, then played Arizona close before defeating the Seahawks. Their offensive line has played better, but still isn’t great. Same goes for their secondary. Add in the fact that Dalvin Cook may not be able to play and the Browns should be able to cover on the road.
Pick: Browns
New York Giants at New Orleans Saints (-8.5)
New York dropped to 0-3 to the Falcons on Sunday. Things don’t look great for the Giants and it won’t get any easier against the Saints. The Saints sport a great defense that is capable of winning games for them, much like they did in week 1 against the Packers. After the defense performs well, Jameis Winston is much more effective.
Pick: Saints
Tennessee Titans (-7.5) at New York Jets
Zach Wilson can’t stop turning the ball over. The Jets shouldn’t be picked until he figures that out. Tennessee will run the ball well and control the game. Winning by more than one possession should happen if the Titans take care of business.
Pick: Titans
Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5) at Philadelphia Eagles
The Chiefs are struggling, but only being 6.5-point favorites against the Eagles, who are on a short week, is crazy. Kansas City will start to hit their stride after playing tough teams to start the season.
Pick: Chiefs
Sunday Evening
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams (-5.5)
Los Angeles dismantled the Buccaneers last week and sure look like Super Bowl Favorites. Arizona has also played well, but it looks like the Rams are on another level right now.
Pick: Rams
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers (-2.5)
The 49ers have a good defense, but if they want their offense to reach its full potential, they need to play Trey Lance. Seattle has had success stretching defenses vertically and their offense could be too much to keep up with.
Pick: Seattle
Baltimore Ravens at Denver Broncos (-1.5)
Denver has played better than expected this season, but it is a tough ask for them to beat the Ravens. Baltimore will be able to run the ball against Denver’s good defensive front. On top of that, the Broncos’ injuries just keep piling up. With two receivers and Bradley Chubb out, the Ravens will upset the Broncos on the road.
Pick: Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers at Green Bay Packers (-6.5)
Pittsburgh’s offense looks awful. Their offensive line isn’t playing well and Ben Roethlisberger is declining more rapidly than expected. The Packers should easily win and cover at home.
Pick: Packers
Sunday Night Football
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5) at New England Patriots
Tom Brady is returning to New England. While it will be emotional, the Buccaneers are the much better team and with Mac Jones struggling, should be able to cover easily.
Pick: Buccaneers
Monday Night Football
Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5)
Los Angeles looks poised for a big leap forward in the second year with Justin Herbert. After beating the Chiefs on the road, they should be able to win and cover over the Raiders at home.
Pick: Chargers
