NFL Week 2 is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are the NFL week 2 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)
Last week: 5-11, Season: 5-11
Thursday Night Football
Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5)
The Chargers and Chiefs kick off the Amazon games on Thursday Night. In week 1, the Chiefs blew out the Cardinals, which gives some hope after the team lost Tyrann Mathieu and Tyreek Hill this offseason. The Chargers won in week 1, but now are without Keenan Allen, who was injured.
Pick: Chiefs
Sunday Afternoon
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns (-6)
Cleveland earned a tough road victory over the Panthers in week 1 on a game-winning field goal. The Jets struggled to move the ball against the Ravens. While the Browns can grind out wins, don’t expect them to blow many teams out this season.
Pick: Jets
Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions (-2.5)
Washington defeated the Jaguars in a tight game and Carson Wentz played well. Detroit was in a shootout with the Eagles in week 1. The Lions looked much improved from last year and could defeat the Commanders at home and cover.
Pick: Lions
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3) at New Orleans Saints
Tom Brady has struggled with the Saints, but New Orleans really struggled with a rebuilding Falcons team in week 1. The Buccaneers should be able to win and cover on the road.
Pick: Buccaneers.
Carolina Panthers at New York Giants (-2.5)
Carolina had a chance to defeat the Browns in week 1, but came up short. Brian Daboll got a big win over the Titans in week 1. Daboll’s aggressiveness could pay off again in week 2.
Pick: Giants
New England Patriots (-1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers forced five turnovers to beat the Bengals in week 1. That likely isn’t sustainable. New England should be able to get back on track in week 2 after losing to the Dolphins. If Mac Jones is healthy, the Patriots can cover on the road.
Pick: Patriots
Indianapolis Colts (-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars
Indianapolis had a disappointing week 1 against the Texans, which resulted in a tie. Jacksonville lost on the Road to the Commanders, but looked improved from last year. The Colts are the better team and need to prove it after tying in week 1.
Pick: Colts
Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)
The Ravens did not struggle beating the Jets in week 1. Miami looked really good against the Patriots. Baltimore being at home and getting healthier at the running back position should help them cover.
Pick: Ravens
Sunday Evening
Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams (-10.5)
Matthew Stafford’s elbow injury is a little concerning, but the Rams are coming off a Super Bowl victory, while the Falcons are rebuilding.
Pick: Rams
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers (-9.5)
Seattle impressed on Monday Night Football and defeated their former quarterback, Russell Wilson. They are on a short week and may suffer a small emotional letdown, but Geno Smith looked really good. San Francisco already had injury issues with George Kittle and Elijah Mitchell. The 49ers will likely win at home, but the Seahawks can keep it close.
Pick: Seahawks
Houston Texans at Denver Broncos (-10)
Houston played extremely well to get a tie against the Colts, but their roster doesn’t have the talent to do that on a week-to-week basis. Denver will want to get back on track after a loss in week 1.
Pick: Broncos
Arizona Cardinals at Las Vegas Raiders (-6)
Arizona did not look good in week 1 and got blown out. Las Vegas lost a close one to the Chargers. The Cardinals are likely to rebound and keep the game close in week 2.
Pick: Cardinals
Cincinnati Bengals (-7) at Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are screwed. Tyron Smith is injured. Dak Prescott is injured. Michael Gallup is still recovering. The sky is falling. Cincinnati had a bad week 1 and are lucky to get the Cowboys in week 2.
Pick: Bengals
Sunday Night Football
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (-10)
Chicago deserves credit for winning a sloppy game against the 49ers. Green Bay has some things to figure out after losing week 1, but betting on Aaron Rodgers is the smart move until the Bears prove to have some more success.
Pick: Packers
Monday Night Football
Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills (-10)
The Bills sure looked like the Super Bowl favorites in week 1. They will likely win this game, but the Titans are a tough opponent who will try to run the ball and make it hard for the Bills to cover.
Pick: Titans
Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5)
Kevin O’Connell did a masterful job in his first game as the Vikings head coach. The Eagles are talented, but did struggle with the Lions. Minnesota looks better so far and can win on the road.
Pick: Vikings
