The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. The bowl season schedule allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2019 FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl.
Liberty Flames Draft Prospects
Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR
Gandy-Golden has been at Liberty for two seasons and has put up some big numbers. In his time at Liberty, Gandy-Golden has 145 receptions for 2,370 yards and 19 touchdowns. This season specifically, he has 74 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.
His production is good, but he also fits the bill of an NFL receiver at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. He has been mocked in some first rounds and should be able to get selected within the first few rounds when the draft comes around.
Projected Draft Range: First round-fourth round
Dontae Duff, OG/CÂ
Duff is one of the players that helped Liberty go from the FCS to The FBS. He started for four seasons, all at guard for the Flames. His accoloades include being All-Freshman in the FCS and being an all-conference player before the Flames became an independent in the FBS.
He doesn’t have the height of an NFL prospect at 6-foot-1, but does have the weight at 330. Because he doesn’t have the right measurables, he will likely go undrafted, but could make an NFL team.
Projected draft range: Undrafted free agent
Stephen “Buckshot” Calvert, QB
Gandy-Golden has been so successful because he has a solid quarterback in Stephen “Buckshot” Calvert. In two seasons at Liberty, Calvert has thrown for 6,461 yards, 47 touchdowns and 23 interceptions on 56.6 percent completion. This season, he has 3,393 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and five interceptions on 58.8 percent completion.
Calvert is undersized for a quarterback at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. If his arm talent checks out, he will be invited to training camp by a team.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted free agent
Other Notable Draft Eligible Players:Â RB Frankie Hickson, Edge Jesse Lemonier, CB Solomon Ajayi
Georgia Southern Eagles Prospects
Monquavion Brinson, CB
Brinson has been making plays for the Eagles for all four years. He has six interceptions and 34 passes defended in his career. This season, he doesn’t have an interception yet, but does have a lot of passes defended with 10.
He is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, so Brinson will have to add some play strength to succeed at the next level. Brinson’s experience and good play should give him a shot to make the NFL.
Projected Draft Range: Seventh round-undrafted free agent
Donald Rutledge, S
While he has only played one season at Georgia Southern, Rutledge has made a huge impact. He went to The Citadel and Savannah State before graduating and joining the Eagles. This season, he had 50 total tackles, one interception and five passes defended.
At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Rutledge has good size for an NFL safety. Like Brinson, he likely won’t be drafted and will have to make the most of his opportunity at a tryout.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted free agent
