Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney is out for the remainder of the season. An ankle injury is sidelining Mooney, and it will apparently require surgery, pushing his return to the field back to the 2023 season.
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Mooney was a fifth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bears. He played his college ball at Tulane for four seasons, leading him to get overlooked in the draft. After Allen Robinson’s departure he has become the number one target for Justin Fields.
In 12 games so far this season, Mooney has 40 receptions for 493 yards and just two touchdowns. He had four touchdowns in each of his previous two seasons. Last year was his first in which he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards.
