The 2022 NFL Draft begins on April 28, which means that The Game Haus will be debuting draft profiles for every team. Each NFL team will be evaluated heading into this year’s draft, as our staff recaps their last season, highlights their needs and pinpoints their potential 2022 NFL Draft targets. The Buffalo Bills are the subject of today’s 2022 NFL Draft profile.
Summary
The Buffalo Bills won the AFC East for the second straight season with a record of 11-6. This earned them a playoff berth, but not a first round bye. In the Wild Card Round, they faced their division rival New England Patriots, beating them 47-17. In that game they never failed to score a touchdown on any of their offensive possessions.
In the Divisional Round they played another iteration of a newly-formed rivalry game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. In an instant classic, the Bills went down in overtime as the defense failed to stop the Chiefs. In the aftermath of the game, the overtime rules were reevaluated as it was deemed unfair that the Bills did not get a chance to possess the ball. The rules were changed, allowing both teams to have an offensive possession.
The Buffalo Bills are among the betting favorites for the Super Bowl in the 2022-2023 season. Here is a look at a way the team can spend their draft picks to get them there.
2022 NFL Picks
Buffalo will have three picks to use in the first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.
First Round (one pick): No. 24
Second Round (one pick): No. 56
Third Round (one pick): No. 88
Team needs
Running back- Maybe the only thing the Bills’ offense lacks is a truly great running back. Their RB room is fine, but if they got a Aaron Jones or Joe Mixon-level back, they might be unstoppable.
Cornerback- This cornerback core is decent, but they could do with a running mate for Tre’Davious White. One more decent corner makes 2021’s best defense even more impressive.
General depth- This roster is all but set. They could use some depth at offensive line or wide receiver, but there are not a lot of true holes on this team.
2022 Draft Targets
First Round:
Pick No. 24: Andrew Booth, Jr., CB, Clemson
Booth can be the ball-hawking corner that the Bills are looking for. He had three interceptions last season, along with 37 total tackles (26 solo tackles). He also had five pass defenses on the season, making all the stats listed the best of his three-year college career.
Second Round:
Pick No. 56: Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State
Hall is perfect for the Bills, and the best part is they will not even have to use a first round selection to get him. He had 253 rushing attempts in 2021, rushing for 1,472 yards and a massive 20 touchdowns. Add to that to 36 catches for 302 yards in the passing game, and Buffalo cannot pass up Hall if (more likely when) he falls to them.
Third Round:
Pick No. 88: Marcus Jones, CB, Houston
Since this draft is so deep at so many positions, why wouldn’t Buffalo double down just in case?
Jones had a massive five interceptions and 36 solo tackles (47 total). He also forced a fumble and had 13 defended passes in 2021. All of these stats are very impressive, so it is interesting that most mock drafts have him falling to the third round. If he does, the Bills should jump at this chance.
