On Monday, January 10th the Bears organization announced the firing of head coach Matt Nagy and General Manager Ryan Pace. While Nagy’s firing did not come as surprise but a blessing Pace’s was more of a surprise. Nagy in his four years had a record of 34-32. He was able to lead the Bears to the playoffs twice but was unsuccessful in each. Pace had a record of 48-65 in his seven years with the organization part of the reason of his firing. It is chairman George McCaskey’s belief that it is time for the Bears to start fresh which started with getting rid of Nagy and Pace.
Can the Bears make the right decision?
After some disappointment in the past years with missed draft picks, poor coaching, and lack of play the Bears were in need of a revival. In the next coming weeks there should be multiple interviews occurring in fact there already is. There is a long list of coaches that have been asked to interview with the team in the coming days. Some of the names on that list include DC for the Cowboys Dan Quinn and DC for the Bucs Todd Bowles. Also, the Bears have the first confirmed interview set with recently fired Brian Flores who is an exciting new potential head coach.
The Bears have also began looking into new General Managers where the list also continues to grow. The Bears are in need of someone who is well respected and knows their way around an NFL front office. Some of the names on that list are former General Manager of the Texans Rick Smith, Colts assistant General Manager Ed Dodds and Browns VP of Football opertations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. These are just some of the names the Bears are going after. These are all promising candidates and it is an exciting day to be a Bears fan.
Heading in the right direction
While it is too early to know who the Bears new Head Coach and General Manager will be it is exciting. George McCaskey made the right decisions removing Nagy and Pace. It was time for a change in the organization and now it is here. Even though it is just the beginning it is a step that the Bears needed. The talent and players are coming but they need a leader. Even with all of these potential hiring’s the Bears still need to make sure the hire the right one. While this is not easy with the amount of good candidates surely there will be someone.
Finding a General Manger is definitely the harder of the two positions because it is not an easy job. Finding a coach should be a simpler task with their being such an abundance of possible hiring’s. The General Manager position takes control of not just the players but the organization. It is important that the Bears find the right fit for not only players but the fans and organization as a whole. We will hopefully see more to come in the next few weeks. For now though their are a lot of good candidates hopefully one can lead the Bears correctly.
