Stevenson was able to play at both Georgia and Miami during his college career. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a four-star recruit out of Florida, Stevenson signed with Georgia to start his college career. He played sparingly in his true freshman season, finishing with 13 total tackles and five passes defended. His production increased to 34 total tackles and five passes defended in his second season with the Bulldogs. After that season, he decided to transfer to Miami. In 2021, Stevenson registered 43 total tackles, one interception and four passes defended. His play helped Miami go 7-5 that season. For the 2022 season, Stevenson registered 25 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended. The Hurricanes struggled with a 5-7 record.
Following the disappointing season for Miami, Stevenson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to third round pick.
Tyrique Stevenson Strengths
Stevenson has good size for an NFL cornerback. He stands 6-foot- and 198 pounds, which is a great starting point for his college career. His size gives him pretty good strength for the position that he can continue to add to. He also has long arms at 32 and 3/8 inches. This helps him match up with bigger receivers and attack the catch point. He is a good press corner partially because of his size, strength and length.
He has good ball skills even though he doesn’t have elite ball production. Stevenson shows good anticipation and ball tracking to help him get in the right position. He is able to attack the catchpoint aggressively. Most of the time he comes out with a pass defended, but sometimes can get interceptions.
His athleticism is also very good. Stevenson has good play speed, which he showed on tape and also ran a solid 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. He shows good quickness and agility as well. When he is starting to give up ground, he shows nice recovery speed as well.
Tyrique Stevenson Weaknesses
Stevenson could show better awareness in coverage. He needs to show better route recognition to understand how receivers are attacking him. There have been times when he loses track of receivers while in zone coverage as well.
He could improve his run defense as well. While he has good athleticism, Stevenson is just an average tackler. He could show better pursuit of ball carriers, as he can sometimes fail to take a direct route to the ball and give up yardage.
He is a fit for press-man coverage with his skillset, but he struggles with zone coverage and off-man coverage. In zone, he has trouble keeping good eye balance between the quarterback and receiver. In off-man he can struggle to mirror routes by receivers.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third-Round Pick
