The Ducks went 4-3 in the COVID-shortened season. In 2021, Sewell tallied 114 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. Oregon won 10 games during the 2021 season. For the 2022 season, Sewell had 56 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His play helped the Ducks win 10 games, although he didn’t play in the Holiday Bowl.
Following the regular season, Sewell declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Noah Sewell Strengths
Sewell is huge for a modern-day linebacker. He stands at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, which makes him one of the bigger linebackers in the class. This size gives him great strength for the position as well. His frame comes with good length too. His measurables will impressive NFL evaluators.
His strength helps him take on blockers and shed blocks. Sewell can move blockers backward to blow up plays. He has the ability to stack and shed blocks well. Sewell shows aggression taking on blocks and disengages. He can’t be blocked by tight ends or fullbacks with regularity.
He is a solid tackler as well. Once Sewell sheds and gets to the ball he is capable of making a good form tackle. Once runners are within his grasp, they rarely break a tackle. With his strength, Sewell can also lay down some big hits and wear down opponents.
Noah Sewell Weaknesses
Sewell lacks athleticism for the position. He has limited range due to his speed being below average. His acceleration also isn’t great. Sewell has tight hips and doesn’t have much bend, which limits his lateral mobility and agility. NFL teams will be able to find more athletic linebackers than him in this draft.
Right now, Sewell is better against the run than against the pass. He is not great in man coverage, as his limited range and agility makes it hard for him to match up with opponents. His limited range also makes it tough for him to play zone coverage. Teams will need to know his coverage limitations and how to use him to find success before drafting him.
Due to his lack of his athleticism, Sewell will need to get faster at diagnosing plays to be successful at the next level. He can be a step or two late to the football, which is partially due to his lack of range, but could be prevented if he read the play sooner. Sewell can be fooled by misdirection and play action.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Fourth-Round Pick
