Willis has helped lift Liberty’s program to new heights in the last couple of years. He is now one of the best quarterback prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Out of high school, Willis was a highly-coveted recruit who attended Auburn. He played sparingly for the Tigers for two seasons then decided to transfer to Liberty. Willis started for the Flames in 2020, throwing for 2,250 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions on 64.2 percent completion. He also rushed for 944 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Flames had a historic season, winning 10 games with Willis under center. In 2021, Willis passed for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 61.1 percent completion. He added 878 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. Liberty had another successful season, winning eight of their 13 games.
Following two great years at Liberty, Willis decided to go pro. He is currently a projected first or second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Willis has one of the strongest arms in the draft class. He is able to push the ball downfield a lot and complete passes for big gains. Willis is also able to put some extra juice on the football to fit it into tight windows. His arm strength will give him the chance to make any throw asked of him at the NFL level.
His athleticism is also among the best in the class. He can escape pressure with his elusiveness and can generate big plays with his arm or legs. Willis is fast and can juke defenders in the open field. Teams can use him on designed run plays and to really attack a defense.
Willis has shown the ability to go through his progressions. His offense uses a lot of RPOs and easy reads, but when he has been asked, he has read the whole field. He will need to do it at a more consistent rate at the NFL level though, as he does have a tendency to bring his eyes down when pressured.
Malik Willis Weaknesses
Willis struggles to consistently deliver accurate passes. He misses targets in the short and intermediate areas of the field. Even when he hits his target, he could put it more accurately to give receivers a better chance to run after the catch.
There are also lapses in his decision-making. He has a lot of confidence in his arm and can throw interceptions when trying to fit the ball into tight windows. Safeties can read his eyes and make plays on the ball. His willingness to trust his arm does help him at times, but it also hurts him in certain situations.
While he can escape the pressure when he sees it, Willis doesn’t always feel pressure coming at him. He doesn’t always recognize where blitzers are coming from and takes sacks because of hit. Willis took too many sacks because he didn’t feel the pressure.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
