LeBron James left Sunday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors with soreness in his right ankle. James was in just his second game back after missing 20 games with a sprain in the same ankle.
James left the game with 6:42 remaining in the fourth quarter and headed straight to the locker room, the Lakers would go on to lose 121-114. The re-aggravation of James’ injury comes at a terrible time for the Lakers, who have now lost three straight games. With eight games in two weeks remaining on their schedule the Lakers are dangerously close to falling into the seventh seed and therefore the play-in tournament.
The Lakers need James back to start rebuilding their champion-level chemistry after dealing with missing players all season due to injuries. If James isn’t at near full strength and the Lakers don’t snap out of their current funk their road through the playoffs could be much tougher than they expected going into the season.
The Lakers play the Denver Nuggets on Monday on the second night of a back-to-back.
