The Sox were on a hot streak going into the All-Star Break, losing one game in three series. Now rested, how will they extend this streak?
This article will look into the next few series that the Sox will be going into, and what they need to do in order to win.
All the Sox hitters will have to be patient and find their pitches, especially Rafael Devers, who has been a monster in the past 15 games.
If Devers can keep this up, and rally other hot hitters like Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida, the Sox should pull through.
For this series, there really is no gameplan. The Athletics are arguably the worst team in baseball, so the Sox should take these games as easy wins.
However, with that said, they shouldn’t go into it carefree. Baseball is a long game, and anything can happen. With the first two games of the series seeming to be reliever games, the only pitcher to be asked to play seriously would be Brayan Bello, who has pitching great the past couple months.
Unlike last year, the Mets this year have been a disaster. In second to last place, the Mets have underperformed in every aspect this season.
The first of two things that need to go right in this series for the Red Sox to win are the Sox need to have James Paxton and Kutter Crawford pitch well, so none of the Mets’ power bats such as Pete Alonso can do damage.
The second thing is the Red Sox hitters need to be wary of the Mets’ pitching. Most of their payroll is there, with future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, and rookie sensation Kodai Senga, all are possible threats for the Sox offense.
The Red Sox will try to continue their hot streak on July 14, when they play the Cubs at Wrigley.
