4. Mets: Steven Matz (7-1, 2.60 ERA, 53 SO, 1.43 WHIP)
It was hard to decide who to place lower between Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard on the Mets rotation. I even considered tying them, but then that meant my top 10 would end up with 11 players, and that’s just lame. So I eventually ended up giving Matz fourth place, but let it be known he could easily have made the podium. He has stepped up massively while the first two men in the rotation continue to regain their rhythm this year. Matz doesn’t get the same recognition as Syndergaard because he doesn’t bring the same heat that Thor throws (also he lacks the long, flowing mane) but he’s still a very effective pitcher using what skill set he’s given. Tuesday’s 5.2 innings against the White Sox was just the second start this season for Matz that wasn’t a quality start (6+ innings of 2 or less runs). He’s showing why this rotation was so feared coming into 2016… it has so much depth that I honestly believe four out of the five guys in it could be number one starters on another team in the MLB. If Matz remains zoned in on the mound, the Mets will continue to be a scary team to play as the season rolls on.

Daniel Murphy totally deserves this No. 1 slot. What a wrecking ball! RBIs all over. If only Harper was batting well…
