7. Phillies: Jeanmar Gomez (2-1, 2.33 ERA, 18 SO, 17/18 saves converted)
With closers being traded around as often as they are in today’s game, the impact of actually having a good one can be dulled because they never seem to stay in one place long enough to become staples in the organization (Mariano Rivera notwithstanding). Gomez has been great from the pen so far in 2016. Being a closer can be hard enough on a player, but with the Phils lack of offensive firepower, Gomez is often brought on with little or no insurance runs to back him, forcing him to walk a very fine line when he’s on the hill in the 9th. The Phillies are 14-2 in one-run ballgames so far; that’s over half their wins this year. In order to succeed in situations like that, a team has to have a bullpen who is able to deliver clutch performances on the mound. So far, Gomez has risen to the occasion, and unless the Phils offense makes a magical turnaround in June, he’ll continue to be one of the key pieces in helping the Phillies grind out wins.

Daniel Murphy totally deserves this No. 1 slot. What a wrecking ball! RBIs all over. If only Harper was batting well…
