2. Marlins: Jose Fernandez (8-2, 2.53 ERA, 96 SO, 1.11 WHIP)
Jose Fernandez is just another example of the quality of young pitching seen in the NL East this year. After abbreviated seasons in 2014 and 2015, Fernandez has already surpassed his innings total for last season and is looking even better in 2016. Fernandez had a scorching-hot May, seeing him rack up six wins in six starts and post just a 1.38 ERA. He’s the clear ace on a team that consists of otherwise average and below-average starters in the rotation, along with an offense that has trouble bringing runners home. As he continues to mature and develop, he could possibly start helping other young pitchers on the staff grow with him, but he’s the clear ringleader of the rotation so far in Miami. If the Marlins are to have any hope of sneaking into the postseason or working their way up to the top of the NL East this year, a large part of it will be due to the efforts of Jose Fernandez.

Daniel Murphy totally deserves this No. 1 slot. What a wrecking ball! RBIs all over. If only Harper was batting well…
