The new game mode, Arena Mode, is leaving League of Legends. Despite its popularity with many vocal members of the community, Riot is removing Arena Mode on August 28 — marking only a couple more days before it departs.
But for fans of the game mode, fret not. Riot intends on bringing Arena Mode back eventually, as mentioned by a Riot employee on Reddit.

“We definitely haven’t seen the last of Arena; the team is discussing the future plans for the mode and none of the options on the table involve abandoning it,” the Riot representative commented.
Though it appears Arena Mode will return, it’s hard to say to what extent. Game modes, like 3v3 and ARAM, have a history of sticking around as a permanent game mode. And many players wanted Arena Mode to stick around permanently as well, as many claimed it was the most fun they’ve had with League in a long time.
There’s definitely a chance it will become a permanent game mode eventually. After all, they even had a built in ranked system into Arena Mode, giving it long term play potential.
But it seems Riot hasn’t determined what they’re going to exactly do with Arena Mode. It’s definitely going to return. It may be a seasonal kind of game mode, like URF. In other words, it may return sporadically, but not stick around permanently either.
Arena Mode’s introduction in the past couple weeks to the general populace served as a testing period for Riot. They actively asked the community what they wanted, analyzed whether it is popular enough to warrant more resources, and even updated the balance many times. The team dedicated to the new game mode is definitely committed, but truly only time will tell what Riot Games decides to commit upon.
