Riot Games announced today the candidates for the Champion Rework Poll including Skarner, Tryndamere, Nocturne, Shyvana and Kog’Maw. Riot Games has been doing the rework poll since 2020. This has lead to the reworks of Fiddlesticks, Mundo, Volibear and Udyr in the past. This time around, there doesn’t seem to be a champion that needs it as much. That being said, the reworks could still be incredibly exciting.
Skarner Wins in Landslide
The one that arguably needs it the most is Shyvanna. Originally designed as a bruiser Jungler and Top Laner, her play style has devolved into a burst mage with her AP build. Needless to say, this isn’t what she should be. Shyvanna is a complicated rework though due to her two form nature. She needs a model for each form and it’s an integral part of her kit. Furthermore, Shyvanna is incredibly popular in China. If Riot can balance this, the rework would be great.
Skarner is another interesting one as it seems he is a champion Riot can’t get right. Skarner has attempted to be reworked already, but he is always a niche pick. One of the best parts about the champion is his ability to lock down a single high priority target. Even with this, Skarner just feels weird. His spirals are a mechanic that should be cool. Changing the map to show his dominion is a great idea on paper, but the impact isn’t that big. If Shyvanna doesn’t win, Skarner should be a close second.
Less Pressing Reworks:
Nocturne has been a staple of the Champion Rework Poll for years, but he has recently found his niche in the meta. In 2021, Top Lane Nocturne and Jungle Nocturne got revived thanks to items like Stridebreaker and Axiom Arc. Honestly, he really doesn’t need one, at least this year.
Tryndamere is another character who has somehow found success in 2021. Tryndamere became popular this year thanks to turret plates and his ability to be played Mid and Top. He was even so viable that he was played at Worlds, something no one would have considered a year ago. Tryndamere is like Nocturne, he might need a rework one day, but today isn’t the day.
Finally is Kog’Maw. This is Kog’s first time on the Champion Rework Poll. Kog has always been a weird pick. His kit is strange and it feels like other characters do his niche of a late game hyper carry just as well. Recently though, he has found his place in being a more tanky ADC. With items like Shieldbow, Wit’s End and Randuin’s Omen, Kog can become a tanky high damage late game carry.
At the end of the day, all of these champions would be cool to see reworked.
