On July 3, 2019, Elliot Bastien “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce retired. Unlike other retirements the Smash community faced in the past this hit hard due to a huge controversy regarding Ally.
The beginning
Tamim “tamim” Omary was one of Smash 4’s top Bayonetta players. With the passage of time, he forged a solid friendship with Zack “CaptainZack” Lauth, another Bayonetta main. Now, this leads towards tamim’s famous twitter rampage.
Here, tamim appeared in a very emotional state and proceeded to expose the pedophilia problems of the Smash community. To add to this, he publicly accused Ally of dating a minor.
Looking to prove his point he proceeded to post screenshots of his DM’s where Ally admitted he liked Zack.
Later on, Zack commented that nothing sexual happened between the two. Consequently, disproving the allegations tamim brought to the community. Also, Zack accessed tamim’s twitter and deleted it. There’s no information on how he did it, but it happened. To follow up, tamim created a new account titled ‘tamimexposing’.
Zack’s Tweet
On June 29, 2019, Zack gave the community confirmation of the allegations. It all came through a picture posted on his twitter where he wrote: “Tamim was telling the truth”. He then deleted the picture, leaving the smash community in utter confusion.
Ally’s Confession
On June 3, 2019, Ally posted his confession on twitter and announced his retirement. He had indeed dated Zack, while they hold an 11-year-old age gap. It was consensual, and it didn’t break any law. All because in both Canada and Louisiana the legal age is 16. Nonetheless, it’s a very controversial issue in the community. One side believes this to be a horrible case of pedophilia inside the community, while the other believes that there was consent and it was legal so it really isn’t a community wide issue.
What to learn from this?
This is an unprecedented situation in the smash community. Before tamim mentioned anything about this there were very few that even suspected this relationship. However, in a community as close as this, more people should have known. This means that enough people decided to keep this secret when its an apparent issue in the community. More people need to take action and speak out against what seems to infect the community. People need to make sure that the Smash community is a safe environment for teens and young adults alike.
