One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 14. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have a bunch of injuries, but defensive coordinator still has their defense playing tough. They are the 14th-ranked fantasy defense this season. While they have three negative-scoring performances, including in week 13 against the Bills, the 49ers also have scored in double-digits three times.
This week, the 49ers are playing Washington. While Washington beat Pittsburgh in week 13, they still aren’t able to move the ball on a consistent basis. If the 49ers can fix their communication issues that were present against the Bills, they can have a big day. They are owned in 42.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Washington Football Team
Washington’s fantasy defense is ranked 10th in the league. They only have one negative scoring game on the year. They have four double-digit outings this season, including in week 13 against the Steelers. Washington’s defense is developing into one of the better ones in the league and it is happening in plain sight.
Against the 49ers, Washington should be able to produce some serious points. Nick Mullens figures to still be starting at quarterback, which favors Washington. In eight games this season, he has thrown nine interceptions. The 49ers haven’t scored more than 30 points with Mullens at quarterback since week 3. Washington is owned in 40.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Tennessee Titans
The Titans have had a rough season on the defensive side of the ball. They rank as the 25th fantasy defense this season. Tennessee has three negative scoring performances, including week 13 against the Browns. The Titans do have two double-digit scoring games against the Bears and Colts.
Tennessee is on this list because of their matchup. They play the Jaguars, who still have one win on the season. Their offense has looked better with Mike Glennon under center, but that can only last for so long. The Titans need to play well for playoff purposes, so they will be ready. They are owned in 16 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are set to take on the Ravens on Tuesday night and then will play Sunday for week 14. They have the worst fantasy defense in the league. Dallas has four negative scoring performances this season. The good news is that Dallas hasn’t had a negative-scoring game since week 6 and even have one double-digit scoring game
In week 14, the Cowboys will play the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals will be without Joe Burrow, who suffered a season-ending injury. Without him, Cincinnati doesn’t move the ball well. Even though Dallas is not a very good defense, they should be able to play well against the Bengals. Dallas is owned in 9.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Arizona Cardinals
Arizona has been an average fantasy defense this year, ranking 18th in the league. They have only two scoring performances below 0 on the year. The Cardinals have two double-digit scoring games this year, coming against the Cowboys and Patriots.
The Giants will be the matchup for the Cardinals in week 14. Even though they are coming off of a win over Seattle, New York isn’t an offense that usually puts up a lot of points. Colt McCoy is filling in for the injured Daniel Jones for the time being. Whichever quarterback starts doesn’t matter, as the Giants haven’t proven to be a consistent offense this year. The Cardinals are owned in 21.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
