The Reds have shipped outfielder Adam Duvall to Atlanta for outfielder Preston Tucker and pitchers Lucas Sims and Matt Wisler.
Atlanta wanted to get a bat with pop in Duvall, who has 15 home runs and 61 RBIs in 105 games. The downside for Atlanta is that Duvall has had trouble making contact this season. He’s batting just .205 on the season. The Braves also were intrigued by Duvall’s salary, which sits at $645,000.
Cincinnati is clearly looking forward to next season despite playing good baseball as of late. All three players have been with the Braves and in AAA this season.
Sims and Wisler are both pitchers who were good prospects, but have lost their way. According to Ken Rosenthal, Sims could be in contention to be in the Reds’ rotation next season. This will allow them to move another starter to the bullpen. Both pitchers have an ERA of over 5.00 in the big leagues this season.
Preston Tucker is an outfielder who gets more contact than Duvall, as he is batting .256 on the season. While the Reds are set on Winker and Schebler as their corner outfielders of the future, Tucker will provide good depth in the future. He will get playing time this season while Winker is out for the year after shoulder surgery.
