In his first year as a starter, Patrick Mahomes has been nothing short of spectacular. The 23-year-old proved his worth with accomplishments such as NFL Most Valuable Player and First Team All-Pro honors in 2018. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s latest achievement will be starring as the cover boy for Madden NFL 20. EA Sports released the cover Thursday afternoon.

Mahomes took the NFL by storm in 2018 after sitting behind Alex Smith during his rookie season. The signal caller quickly became comfortable in the spotlight as he threw for 5,097 yards. In addition, he led the league in touchdown passes with 50. Mahomes finished the regular season with a passer rating of 113.8 and led his team to the playoffs with the number one seed in the AFC.
In the playoffs, Mahomes guided the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game where he completed 16 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for Kansas City, it was not enough as New England Patriots won the game 37-31 in overtime.
Although Mahomes’ first year as a starter did not end with a Superbowl victory, he still has made an impression as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The improvised style of play Mahomes displays is what makes him so exciting to watch. From a non-dominant hand toss to no look passes, Mahomes shows off his skill set in many ways.
The sophomore quarterback’s talents have made him the first Chiefs player to ever make the Madden cover. Going into his third season, the young star has already filled out an impressive résumé. Riding high on the accomplishments of 2018, Mahomes will have to fulfill many expectations in the coming season.
