The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that they signed head coach Jon Cooper to a multi-year contract.
Cooper is currently the longest-tenured coach in the NHL and has an NHL best .643 winning percentage. Cooper spent six years with the Lightning with a 301-157-44 record. Before this season, he led the Lightning to the Eastern Conference Finals three times and a 2015 Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Lightning are the only team in the NHL to appear three of the last four conference finals.

This season, he led the Lightning to their first-ever Presidents’ Trophy. In fact, they became the second fastest team in NHL history to clinch the trophy. There is also no doubt that Cooper should be the nominee for the Jack Adams Award.
The Lightning are having one of the most incredible seasons in recent NHL history. Now they have 122 points, which is the sixth best regular season points total in NHL history. The team has the opportunity to beat the 1995-1996 Detroit Red Wings regular season wins record (62). Last night’s the team had 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins. They have five more regular season games to play. Cooper is going nowhere as he focuses on winning Tampa Bay’s second-ever Stanley Cup title.
The Lightning will be having the next four days off as they prepare for their final home game against the Stanley Cup Champions, Washington Capitals. This is an exciting and historic year for the franchise.
