The NFL season is already full of surprises, which makes it hard to pick winners. Cecil Walker and Joe DiTullio, of The Third and the Don Football Show, will do their best to try to predict the winners for every NFL game this season. Here are the NFL week 9 picks.
Thursday Night: Oakland Raiders at San Francisco 49ers
Joe- The 49ers are coming off a loss to the lowly Cardinals. While the Raiders are literally a dumpster-fire, if they keep the ball on the ground, they should be able to win this game.- Raiders
Cecil- Who to pick? The team that has completely underperformed with their star coach or the team that has overperformed without their star QB? Raiders have to win at some point and I can’t trust the 49ers after losing to a Cardinals team on life support. -Raiders
Sunday: Chicago Bears at Buffalo Bills
Joe- With Derek Anderson banged up, Nathan Peterman might start. These Bears will look like the 85′ Bears in this game and their defense might outscore the Bills’ offense.- Bears
Cecil- What the Bears are about to do the Bills should be illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Don’t let your young children watch this massacre. Bears
Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns
Joe- The Browns might have gotten better after firing Hue Jackson, but the Chiefs are on a whole other level. This one won’t be close.- Chiefs
Cecil-Who is running the offense in Cleveland with the firing of Hue Jackson and Todd Haley? No that should be. The Browns will begin their annual midseason race to the bottom against a great Chiefs team.- Chiefs
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins
Joe- This is a coin-flip game. The Dolphins are at home and are still somehow .500. Since they played last Thursday and are at home, the Dolphins are the safer pick.- Dolphins
Cecil- Have to go with the home team in this one. The Dolphins have shown flashes of being a good football team while the Jets have regressed throughout the season.-Dolphins
Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
Joe- Well, the world thought that the Lions were trying to be competitive when they traded for Damon Harrison. Now they traded away Golden Tate. That will hurt just enough to cost the Lions the first game as they adjust to life without him.- Vikings
Cecil- Detriot’s defense is just plain terrible and the Vikings offense will run circles around them. The Lions offense won’t be able to keep up.-Vikings
Atlanta Falcons at Washington Redskins
Joe- The Redskins have successfully stopped the run, but the Falcons will air it out. Washington won’t be able to keep up and Atlanta will keep their winning streak alive.- Falcons
Cecil- I am a believer in what the Redskins are doing this season and our my favorite to win the NFC East. The Redskins defense will be able to contain the Falcons as Adrian Peterson runs down the clock.- Redskins
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
Joe- Tampa Bay looked dead in their tracks against the Bengals, but then benched Jameis Winston in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick and FitzMagic returned. That will be enough to keep them competitive, but the Panthers are playing really good football this season and are at home.- Panthers
Cecil- Fitzmagic will definitely get some yards in this one, but the Panthers will get more. Tampa Bay’s defense stopping someone is as likely as a group of teenagers all escaping a haunted house in a horror film.-Panthers
Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens
Joe- Just as expected, the Steelers are turning it on. They will make the playoffs and will make a statement against their division rival. James Connor has been a star in the absence of Le’Veon Bell and will test the Ravens’ good run defense.- Steelers
Cecil- The Ravens continue to regress and the Steelers are coming into their usual mid-season form. The series is usually a split between the two teams and the Ravens already won their first meeting.- Steelers
Houston Texans at Denver Broncos
Joe- Demaryius Thomas will be headed to the visiting locker room in Denver for the first time ever. The Broncos aren’t happy he was traded and the Texans are scorching hot right now. Case Keenum’s ineffectiveness to move the ball will be the difference.- Texans
Cecil- If Deshaun Watson can handle the altitude, the Texans will be fine. If not, the Texans will need to lean on the running game. Either way Case Keenum and company aren’t much of a threat. -Texans
Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks
Joe- The Chargers have won four straight games and will want to keep it going. Philip Rivers is playing well, although Melvin Gordon is banged up. Melvin Ingrim will get enough pressure on Russell Wilson to help the Chargers take home the win.- Chargers
Cecil- The Chargers always get better as the season progresses. Philip Rivers will spread the ball out among his various weapons and the Seahawks will struggle to keep up.=Chargers
Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints
Joe- Sean McVay’s squad kept the undefeated season alive with an ace special teams play to finish off the Packers. After their emotional win, they now have to travel across the country and play in one of the toughest environments in the NFL. The Saints will take down the Rams for the first time this season.- Saints
Cecil- Drew Brees and almost unstoppable in the Superdome and that should continue with the Rams injured secondary. It will be a shootout, but I have to go with my Superbowl pick and Drew Brees.- Saints
Green Bay Packers at New England Patriots
Joe- During the trade deadline, the Packers have shed some of their players in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Ty Montgomery. They’ll need to have other players step up, but it won’t happen right away. Tom Brady’s team will get the better of Aaron Rodger’s team, but Rodgers will keep it close.- Patriots
Cecil- I love this matchup and the clash of the two greatest QBs playing right now. This game could signal a changing of the guard and both Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will be leaving it all on the field. I know the game is in New England, but I can’t trust the Patriots after an ugly win against Buffalo.- Packers
Monday Night Football: Tennessee Titans at Dallas Cowboys
Joe- Tennessee has scored the second least amount of points in the league so far this season and Dallas has a surprisingly good defense. If the Cowboys keep the ball on the ground, they’ll win the game.- Cowboys
Cecil- The Titans offense is a mess. The only run game they have is when Marcus Mariota scrambles out of the pocket, which is far too often. The Cowboys have a decent defense and should have an easy win as long as the offense stays on track.-Cowboys
