As a four-star recruit in the class of 2019, Hopper signed with Florida out of the state of Georgia. He played as a reserve in his first two seasons. Hopper had a larger role for the Gators in 2021, finishing the season with 62 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Following the season, he transferred to Missouri. In 2022, he tallied 77 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. His play helped the Tigers win six games. For the 2023 season, Hopper totaled 55 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks. He led Missouri to an 11-win season.
Following the 2023 season, Hopper declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Ty’Ron Hopper Strengths
Hopper has solid size for an NFL linebacker. He is 6-foot-2 and 231 pounds, which will make him fit right in at the NFL level. His arms aren’t the longest at 31 and 3/8 inches, but he uses his length well to help disengage from blocks and to be disruptive in coverage.
He is a good athlete in a few different ways. Hopper has good speed and has sideline to sideline to range. He is quick with good acceleration as well and good short area burst. His agility is also solid to help him elude blocks and cover better.
His ability to defend the run is also a plus. He can play downhill well and uses his range to go track down ball carriers in pursuit. Once he is near a ball carrier, he is usually able to bring them down with a solid tackle.
Ty’Ron Hopper Weaknesses
Hopper can have trouble processing quickly. He doesn’t diagnose plays fast enough on a lot of plays to make a huge impact. Hopper can do a better job of seeing the whole field and making faster decisions based on what he sees.
While he can cover decently in man to man or zone, he does have some lapses. He can lose his man when he is supposed to be sticking with him. In zone, he can leave his responsibilities, as he gets a little too greedy. More discipline will help him in this area.
He usually can make solid tackles to end plays, but he does miss a decent amount as well. Hopper needs to focus on wrapping up and bringing the ball carrier to the ground. If he can cut down on missed tackles, he can really improve his productivity.
