Following the 2023 season, Kinchens declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a third or fourth round pick.
Kam Kinchens Strengths
Kinchens has great ball skills and can help change games that way. He tracks the ball very well in the air and then attacks the catchpoint aggressively. Kinchens comes away with some passes defended, but a lot of times makes a nice catch and can even return the ball well.
In his time at Miami, Kinchens showed the ability to play single-high or in two-high looks. He had good instincts and showed better anticipation in zone coverage. His range won’t be the best, but he can put himself in good position to make plays.
He can impact the game by helping stop the run as well. He makes mistakes, but he is willing to play downhill to help. What makes him impactful is that he can also complete plays with big hits or form tackles. His tackling is good in comparison to other safeties in the class.
Kam Kinchens Weaknesses
Kinchens is a risk taker, which helps him make plays, but also costs him at times. He can get beat by double moves and struggles with route recognition. Kinchens needs to see the field better consistently and take more calculated risks.
His range will not be among the best in the class. He did not run a fast 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine and those struggles also show up on tape. In zone coverage, he won’t cover as much area, while in man he could struggle to cover receivers.
While his willingness to help against the run and can tackle, but he can fill run lanes better. He can also take better angles to the football, as he gives up too much yardage in pursuit. More focus on his role as a run defender will make him great in that regard.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
