What Are Some Tips And Tricks When Playing Starfield?
Select Character Traits That You Like
There are a lot of character traits to choose from that can give players advantages inside and outside of battle. However, the majority of them have a negative tradeoff associated with them. Select the one that fits the perfect playstyle for you. Whether that’d be ones that save you money or give you more health in combat. There isn’t a wrong trait to select. Everyone’s playstyle is different so don’t be afraid to experiment.
Fast Travel Is Available
Whenever you discover a new location, the ability to fast travel to it becomes available. Once a location is already discovered on the surface/Starmap, players will be asked to confirm if they want to travel to the said destination. The ability to teleport to the player’s ship is also possible by pushing the Y button.
Use The Scanner When Lost
Utilize the scanner whenever you don’t know what to do next. Whether it’s a main mission or a side quest, the scanner will point you in the right direction. It works especially well if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere or in a heavily congested area.

Purchase A Home
Buying a house in Starfield is a streamlined process. To get a house in Starfield, you’ll need to buy it using in-game currency or by completing certain quests that come up. During a Discord Q&A, Lead Quest Designer Will Shen mentioned that players can purchase a home in all the major cities in the game. This means that there is a wide variety of housing options to choose from. Houses are customizable in terms of furnishing and decoration. You can also store a majority of your items here to save up on space.
Save Up On Materials
On your exploration, you’ll come across several different materials whether that’d be through mining or through Outpost. Don’t go selling them as they may become useful during your playthrough. It especially comes in handy when crafting certain items.
Carry Multiple Weapons
Certain weapons work better on different enemies. It’s a good thing that Starfield allows players to carry multiple weapons. Just watch your inventory space so you don’t become encumbered.
Deviate From The Main Mission
When the chance is given, don’t be afraid to do side missions. During these missions not only can you get XP, but it also gives you the opportunity to explore more of the world and find better gear for yourself. While the main quest can be done at a lower level, it doesn’t hurt to beef your character up a little bit more.
Utilize Outposts
An Outpost in Starfield serves as a base of operations of sorts. Here you can farm for different kinds of resources that will prove useful for your expeditions. Having several different Outposts can maximize the amount of resources you can gain.
Stockpile on Locpicks
In Starfield there are a lot of times when players will need to pick locks in order to access certain areas. In order to do this players will need to find some Digipicks. In comparison to the normal bobby pins present in Fallout or Skyrim, Digipicks are Starfield’s version of those. They act the same way in the previously mentioned titles. Digipicks can be found as loot from NPCs, chests, etc. You can also purchase them from vendors. Players will need to stock up as they will find themselves blazing through them.

Utilize Companions And Crewmates
Exploring the endless possibilities of space can be a little lonely at times. In Starfield there’s so much to do in terms of discovering new planets and taking down all types of foes. The best part about it is that players are able to recruit companions to their ship to help with everything. Certain companions have their own skills as well that can help your ship/community thrive so keep an eye out for the more essential ones.
