One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 12. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
The Commanders have an average fantasy defense that ranks 19th at 4.7 points per game. They have scored double-digit points twice, against the Browns and Panthers. Washington has four negative-scoring games, which were against the Eagles, Ravens, Bengals and Buccaneers.
This week, the Commanders take on the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys will be coming off a short week after playing on Monday Night Football. In their only game since starting quarterback Dak Prescott was injured, they scored just six points. Dan Quinn is a defensive-minded head coach who can take advantage of the situation. They are rostered in 28.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Buccaneers have a below-average fantasy defense, ranking 25th at 3.6 points per game. They have two double-digit scoring games, which were against the Saints and Eagles. Tampa Bay has two negative-scoring outings, which were against the Falcons and Ravens.
This week, the Buccaneers will take on the New York Giants. The Giants are scoring a league-worst 15.6 points per game. They have just made a quarterback change and Tommy DeVito will now start. It is hard to see the offense improving much and the Buccaneers can have a big game. They are rostered in just 9.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Bears have had a solid fantasy defense, ranking 10th at 7.7 points per game. They have three double-digit scoring games, which were against the Titans, Panthers and Jaguars. Chicago has one negative-scoring game, which came at the hands of Washington.
In week 12, the Bears play the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings started the season out hot offensively, but have cooled off. They average 24.4 points per game, but haven’t reached that mark since playing the Lions five games ago. Chicago can have a good game this week. They are rostered in just 38.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
Cleveland has a slightly below-average fantasy defense, ranking 29th at 5.2 points per game. They have one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Raiders. The Browns have one negative scoring game, which was against the Saints in week 11.
This week the Browns play the Pittsburgh Steelers. It isn’t the best matchup, as the Steelers score 23.3 points per game. With teams on bye, the Browns should only be picked up in desperation. Their best hope is to keep it a low-scoring game. Cleveland is rostered in 37 percent of ESPN leagues.
The Raiders have a bad fantasy defense, ranking 28th at 3.2 points per game. They have one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Steelers. Their one negative-scoring game came to the Carolina Panthers.
In week 12, the Raiders match up with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are a tough matchup, as they score 21.4 points per game. Las Vegas should only be played in desperation. Their best hope is to force Bo Nix into turnovers, but he’s been playing well as of late. The Raiders are rostered in 3.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
