The Miami Marlins have made a trade under the wire for some power hitting. Ahead of the 2023 MLB trade deadline, the Marlins have traded left-handed prospect Jake Eder for White Sox infielder Jake Burger.
USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
2023 is Burger’s third year in the MLB. He played only 15 games in 2021 and 53 games in 2022. So far in 2023, he’s played in 88 games, racking up 323 plate appearances which is already almost a 50 percent increase from his previous career high.
In 323 plate appearances this season, Burger is hitting for a .214 average, but he does have 25 home runs and 52 runs batted in. He’s also struck out in almost one-third of his 294 at-bats, though, fanning 102 times.
