The Spurs hold the first, 33rd and 44th pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. Everyone knows that they will take Victor Wembanyama first, but the real question is who they will take in the second round or if the trade back up into the first round.
Here is a draft preview for the Spurs.
1st Pick
Victor Wembanyama is going to be the first overall pick in the draft. He is a generational talent who may be the most hyped prospect ever. The 7-foot-5 Frenchman won the scoring title in the LNB Pro A and led the Metropolitans 92 to the finals.
33rd Pick
The Spurs should look to add Kobe Brown with the 33rd pick. Brown led Missouri to their first NCAA Tournament win since 2010. He is a 6’6” forward who is a good defender and scorer.
At Mizzou last season, Brown Averaged 15.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He shot 55% from the field and 46% from three.
Brown would be a perfect fit with the Spurs as he would provide them a good scorer and defender off of the bench.
44th Pick
With the 44th pick, the Spurs should look to add Houston guard, Marcus Sasser.
The Spurs need a point guard and instead of trading up to get one, they could settle on Sasser in the second round.
Sasser is undersized at only 6’2” but he has a 6-foot-7 wingspan. He is a solid defender and great scorer.
Sasser averaged 16.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in his senior season for the Cougars. He shot the ball well at 44% from the field and 38% from three.
Sasser needs to improve on his court vision and passing ability, but he would be a great add for the Spurs.
Possible Trade Targets
There have been multiple reports that the Spurs are interested in trading up in the draft. Already having the first pick, the Spurs are looking to add a young point guard to pair with Wemby.
These options could include Scoot Henderson, Amen Thompson or Anthony Black.
Henderson and Thompson are projected to both go in the top 5, so the only options for the Spurs is to work out a deal with either the Trail Blazers for the third pick or the Rockets for the fourth pick.
Black is projected to go around the 10th pick. The Mavericks own the 10th pick and may be looking to trade it.
Another trade target is Wembanayama’s teammate, Bilal Coulibaly. Coulibaly showed a lot of promise in France and would be a perfect pairing with Wemby.
The NBA Draft is Thursday and the Spurs hold the first pick. Expect San Antonio to make some trades before or during the draft.
